First off we have Nona the Ninth, the final locked tome book that is currently out. The confusion caused by these books feels like a benefit and not a boon. You should read these books! They are fun and insane and gay and I have not gotten anyone else to read them despite the fact I have been trying for more than a year.
I also read Howl's Moving Castle for the first time this year. Howl is the kind of egotistical loser dandy that a part of me wants to be. He gives me gender envy for lack of a better word. I want his vibes.
Look everybody, I'm smart and read dark academia lit-fic. This is a wonderful book where everybody either gets shot or kills themself. :3
Spoilers for this one. Whether or not I actually spoil the plot is up for discussion but better safe than sorry
both read this and watched the movie for the first time this year. I have a deep love for seemingly idyllic small towns hiding dark secrets. If someone showed me the movie as a kid I would have been obsessed. The movie got to me more than I expected it to, I knew the twist going in and wasn’t paying full attention but it got to me. There's a character that's cut from the movie. She was a more traditional woman then our protagonist but that wasn’t enough to save her. They got rid of her tennis courts. I’m still mad about that.
I love the Wayward Children books! It is incredible to get to read about kids exploring magical fantasy worlds with the prose meant for adults. The world of this one really works, there is a magic in a world that (at least seems) fair.
I wonder how far they would let the creator go with the queerness if the tv show wasn’t canceled (especially the poly stuff). The first book in the series has some trouble with speech bubble placement which is really annoying. My main take on the series is that I think It would have been better if they made the main villain explicitly homophobic. I think making the whole thing vague and metaphorical lessened the impact. I love Norma so much.
I never actually logged this but I did read almost the whole thing. I adore these comics. Honestly out of everything written here It might be my favorite. Also oh my god the art is so pretty.
I randomly reread this one because I was feeling sad. I cried, she's just like me for real rea.l
Masterminds is a series of mediocre children's books. I have been posting a lot of takes about it on my tumblr blog. I read the first one at least 20 times as a kid. I was a big fan of the seemingly idyllic small town holding a deep secret. I never actually read the rest of the series till now. I started the second one multiple times but always got bored (the mystery is solved at the end of the first book so now they have to do less interesting things). Anyway the parts of this that I loved are still there, the setting is fun, all of the little hints that clued the protagonists in that something was wrong were really well done. The book series has problems I would have never noticed as a kid. I think many masterminds have a view of morality that is a bit too wrapped up in legality for me. It is also unwilling to let its protagonists do bad things, but still wants them to angst about morality. This leads to the feeling that our characters are just angsting about shoplifting. I am legitimately considering writing an essay on the series I can’t get It out of my head. Anyway the main thing you need to know is that the main villain is killed by an aquarium breaking, and being crushed to death by a manta ray. This is really funny to me for some reason.
